The bike ride along the beach yesterday was short but oh so sweet. I really, really need to take better advantage of my location I am in right now before I get more city centred. I actually did not end up helping out with the baking as I got a bit of nauseous in the afternoon and wanted to shake it off with a nap. A wonderful nap with sun pouring in on me allowing me to fall asleep into a very deep sleep that only lasted 60 minutes but felt so much more. I have learned over the years of nap taking that the key is time limits. Oh so many times have I set out with great expectations of a nap that will revive my day. But then like many nap takers have fallen in lust with my snooze button and hours later wake up in darkness and a very messy sleep cycle for the next couple of days. It is essential to never nap more than 90 minutes and to always have an alarm set with a snooze that has very short intervals. If you succeed waking up from the nap after the first or second alarm you will benefit all day! Trust me like I said I have been perfecting the art of napping since my first months of university. I really should go live in Spain again (I lived there for 6 weeks surely that counts?) and take full advantage of their lush siesta culture.
Last night I watched Gone With The Wind for my first ever time. I know sacrilege how has it taken me so long? I have seen hundreds and hundreds of films but there is handful of classics that I have never gotten around to including Gone With The Wind! Also on that list our The Godfather, Scarface, Deerhunter, Network and many more! What is your favourite classic that I should see sooner rather than later?
Today I feel truly Swedish! My hostess daughter and I biked to a steam room that looked directly out in to the ocean. It has a perfect view of the ocean with a beautiful winter sun reflecting off the water. Once we were sufficiently steamed we ran into the ocean for a quick dip. The water was of course freezing being the throngs of winter but being Australia not as cold as other oceans would be in winter. We ran back and forth between steam sessions and dips in the oceans 3 times over a course of an hour. It was such a satisfying rush and we plan to go a few more times this week whilst I am still living here.
I feel really, really rejuvenated and am excited for the new week ahead!
P/S In the short time I have been here I have become hooked on a reality television show...shame on me I know! Thankfully it was something of the more acceptable end of reality TV (is that even possible?!) as it was Master Chef Australia. Tonight was the finale and let me tell you I was not pleased with the winner! Hopefully now that it is over I will switch off the idiot box and continue to read more. I have read three great books since my flight out and arriving.
