The apartment hunting continues. It is exhausting and interesting. I have seen a range of places since Saturday. I am torn between 3 places for very different reasons. I chose one yesterday and have left them a voicemail. I have not heard back from them but I am hoping they are just figuring out what they want. The place I desire is in an ideal location. A stones throw away from cafes, a few boutiques and small green grocer. Everything closes at about 6-7ish so would not have to worry about noise pollution. And if I want buzz after dark it is a street away. So I ask you all to keep your fingers crossed for me that they want me too!
I am nearly at a week here in Melbourne and my love for the city continues to grow. Every day is more exciting then the last. The city is electrifying (not in an NYC way) and inspiration is calling me at every corner. As I was walking between viewings on Saturday I actually let out a little yelp (I was on a quiet residential street) because I was bursting with so much excitement.
I am heading in soon to meet my friend Katherine for lunch. She is going to take me to an area I have not seen yet. The area is more city proper and not so villagey like my dear Carlton and Fitzroy. It will be an interesting excursion I am sure! This evening my hostess's and I are celebrating their daughter's/sister birthday. The youngest is a fashion designer in Germany. We will be feasting on all her favourite things which include sushi and a Polish chocolate cake. Should be a fun girls night!
I had an interesting realization the other day that I had not had a drop of alcohol since I have gotten here. Usually when I don't have a glass of wine or a pint of beer I have funny sleep patterns. I learned this during my month long detox earlier in the year. Here though my sleep patterns are not effected by the lack of booze but by the jet lag and my racing mind. This has not been so much the case the last two days as I finally start to ease in to the Aussie time zone. I am sure once I am settled in to my place I will buy a few bottles of lovely Aussie wine and beer but for now its a new chapter for me in many ways. I have had meat once since I got here. I wake up every morning to a freshly squeezed cucumber and celery smoothie. I am discovering I love hot water with a squeeze of lemon or lime.I walk everywhere. And soon enough I will be biking!
And well actually on Sunday when I was waiting for my hostess daughter to get out of the show she was seeing I treated myself to a small bottle of Italian beer at a cafe on the street I am hoping to live on!
