What better time to catch you all up then the day after Australia Day? I thought so too so here comes a nice update about yesterday.
Australia Day is I suppose their version of Independence Day. Some people refer to it as 'Invasion Day' but most are out drinking lots of beer and having a barbecue. I was going to have that experience but it did not quite work out that way. Not a terrible thing as I had a wonderful Australia Day none the less. The original barbecue idea was not to happen because with public transportation running on a Saturday schedule it was going to take me over an hour to get to said barbecue. This did not appeal to me. So instead I went to a picnic in the Treasury Gardens. I should mention that this picnic was being hosted by the American Expat Club here in Melbourne. I had not been to an event arranged by them since Halloween. The good news is like Halloween there was tons of yummy food. One girl had made savoury bread pudding which was a particular highlight. She even let me take home the leftovers which was very kind! Unfortunately like the Halloween party it was all couples again and even a few babies this time too! Oh well I will go again for the delicious food! In the evening my American friend from book club had us over to her apartment to watch the fireworks. She lives in the heart of the CBD on the 32nd floor of a new apartment building. They have a corner apartment with fantastic balconies and tall glass windows. Unfortunately one little pesky building blocked us from getting 100% full views of the fireworks but still a good spot none the less and lots of yummy Oyster Bay to drink.
So yes if you are following I spent a lovely Australia Day with not a single Australian....!
I still need to update about my lovely week with the Fabulous Fabris Sisters and Phoebe. But will get to that another day.
