For those of you who have seen my photos on Crackbook you will know that one of my room mates has three large bookshelves full of books. This bodes very well for me because as a nomad I try not to buy books (bulky/heavy). I already brought over three fantastic guide books (one about Australia as a whole, one about living and working in Australia and one about New Zealand as a whole) that my brother Jay bestowed on me for Christmas last year. So having these three bookshelves at my disposal has been rather fantastic. The first one I picked up was The Great Gatsby which I had not read since 10th grades American literature class. I loved it then and I love it now. It really is wonderful rereading books again from my ASL days. I thoroughly enjoyed rereading To Kill A Mocking Bird a few years ago. After The Great Gatsby next to get in to was The Girl with the Pearl Earring. It was nice to read about the Netherlands and I was somewhat interested in the characters but overall it was nothing outstanding. I can't imagine what the film adaptation is like and don't really care to see it either. I am now thirty pages from the end of Love in the Time of Cholera which I thought at first that I did not like but have grown rather fond of. I think my main problem with it is that one of the main protagonists really annoys me but this is made up by fantastic writing. Next up is scission which is a collection of Australian short stories. I will be reading it simultaneously with another unknown as of right now. Yesterday I joined my first ever book club! This is something I have been wanting to do for a long time so I am pretty excited! It is a group of eleven other girls that meet up the last Tuesday of every month at a new restaurant every time. It will be great to read stuff I might not usually pick, meet lots of new people, and try out lots of new exciting places! Will keep you posted on what they choose for October once I know.
